Kerry Johnson
Executive Assistant to the Rector

I have been a member of St. John’s since 1990. I began working at St. John’s as a part-time Administrative Assistant to the Staff in August of 1991 and am currently the Executive Assistant to the Rector. Before working at St. John’s, I was a school teacher, having taught second grade in both Virginia and in Charlotte. My husband, Rick, and I married in 1994-we met at St. John’s during a Kanuga Parish Family Weekend in 1993! Between us, we are the parents of 5 sons and 1 daughter and the grandparents of 4! We love to travel and enjoy playing with our puppy, Blue. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to work for and with my parish family.

Matt Williams
Senior Asst. to the Rector, Family Ministries

When I moved to Charlotte and joined St. John’s in 1995, I had no idea how linked my life would become with our parish!  It started out simply enough when I agreed to be a volunteer youth advisor.  Over time, a persistent “nudging” from God led me into full-time youth ministry, and I joined the staff of St. John’s as Assistant Youth Minister in April, 2005.  In October, 2008 I became the Assistant to the Rector for Youth Ministry, happily serving the youth of the parish in that role for many years.

  In response to a call from the Rector, I undertook the new role of Family Minister at St. John’s in January, 2016.  I am very excited to work with all of the families of St. John’s as they integrate their faith lives and their family lives.  I am blessed by my amazing and beautiful wife, Sharon, and our two sons, Chris and Ben.  On the rare occasion I have any free time, I enjoy cooking, hiking, travelling, reading, and, like all fathers, napping! 


Jillianne Booth
Asst. to the Rector, Youth Ministries

I love being a youth minister and Christian educator!  I have a deep sense and affirmation that God has and is preparing and sustaining me in educational ministry. In other words, my job is not a job for me -- it is what I am lucky enough to get to do everyday!  The best part is getting to meet youth where they are, help bring a deeper relationship with Jesus into their lives in creative ways!

I grew up in the Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from Columbia College in 1999 with a BA in Biology and a minor in Religion.  In 2007, I received my Master’s in Christian Education from Pfeiffer University (Charlotte campus).  I have been serving in youth ministry and Christian education in a paid capacity since 2002.  I am thrilled to have accepted the call to be a part of the youth ministry staff at St. John's in July 2011 as Assistant Youth Minister.  In January 2016, the Rector called me to serve as Assistant to the Rector for Youth Ministries. 

My two beautiful children keep me busy and constantly on my toes; I love being a mom!  In my spare time, I'm trying to be Rachael Ray and tremendously enjoy trying out new recipes on my family!  If I could have any other job in the world, it would be hers!  I love to shop, too, and I also play the guitar.  Most of the year you can find me wearing a pair of flip flops!

Brian Walsh
Assistant Youth Minister

 I am coming to you from Fairfax Virginia where I was born and raised, to start my tenure here at St. John's! In 2005, I graduated from Ferrum College with a Bachelor in Social Work. Since then I have worked as a youth worker and mentor in various different organizations. The past three year, I have been the youth minister of church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, VA. In my free time I enjoy watching and playing sports, playing guitar and singing, and running/hiking. Please don't hesitate to come up and say Hi, I am looking forward to meeting and knowing everyone here at St. John's.

Jenny Taylor
Asst. to the Rector, Preschool Ministries

I began working for the Preschool as the Director in 2005. Before becoming the Director, I taught Preschool in the Charlotte area for 7 years and in the Virginia area for 4 years. After falling in love with St. Johns, I became a member in 2009 and began to volunteer as an EYC Advisor. Both my two children, Samantha and Ben and my husband Jeff are involved in EYC and its missions. When I am not at work or Church, I enjoy gardening, running and walking my two rescue dogs, Charlie and Olive. I am also blessed to have my elderly parents live right next door to us. I thank God every day for the Church and its members and the love they have given to my family over the years.

Cathy Harrison
Assistant to the Rector, Special  Projects and  Executive Verger

When one's vocation and avocation are found in the same place, that life is truly blessed!

In May of 2010, having recently left the corporate world of healthcare, I joined the staff of St. John's. Having been a member since 1997 and serving in many ministries and areas of leadership, the church is very familiar and a place that I truly love to be.

I came on board in the area of Special Projects which is as vague a position as it sounds!  Primarily, if the task is not something that will continue on a routine basis, then it most likely falls in my area.  The calendars, booklets, brochures and other special collateral come out of my office.  As well, I am involved in coordinating events like the Ministry Fair, the Rector's Ball and other functions sponsored by St. John's.

During the summer of 2012, we added a new position within the Worship Support area - Executive Verger - and I am the first to serve in this capacity.  This is a volunteer position that coordinates the communication of information to all those that serve in the worship services at St. John's each week. 

When not at St. John's, I enjoy traveling with my husband, Pierre and our daughter Christy.  Pierre enjoys riding his motorcycle, and Christy and I follow in a rented RV serving as the support vehicle and 'hotel on wheels'. This is a close as I get to camping! 

My family loves to cook, eat, and plan fun meals and we spend many hours together in and around the kitchen. If you want to try something new, give us a call to find out what's cooking! We'd love to share our creations with you! 

Laura Pruitt
Assistant to the Rector for New Member Ministry

I have been a member of St. John’s since 1977 with a short time away for college and a job out of state.  My husband Jeff and I returned in 1999 after moving back to Charlotte.  Growing up at St. John’s, I was heavily involved with the youth group and I am thrilled that our girls, Sallie Reid and Meredith, are lucky enough to get to do the same thing.  I have worn many volunteer hats at St. John’s and now am happy to be a member of the staff as the Assistant to the Rector for New Member Ministry. 

Mary Catherine Coon
The Rector's Chaplain and Prayer Partner

I am now beginning to retire to three-quarters time and recently moved to Southminster Retirement Community.  Although I am still active as a Third Order Sister in the Third Order Society of St. Francis in following my Rule of Life and have joined the Chapter of St. Mary Magdalene, The Order of the Daughters of the King, here at St. John’s-- both Orders for prayer and service.  Once you pass a certain age, time seems to go a lot slower and so am I.  I now can pick and choose and serve at my leisure.  Prayer and the service will always be part of my journey with Christ.

Fr. Paul and I have our Prayer time together each Wednesday afternoon in the Chapel.  This is important as we pray for you, the parishioners, our friends and neighbors, the sick, the homeless, the prisoner, our solders and the concerns and our blessings for Charlotte and the world.  As St. Francis says, speak the Gospel—say words if you must.

Janet Brown
Sr. Assistant to the Rector for Finance and Administration

St. John’s has given our family so much since we joined in 1996 and we’ve endeavored to give back.  Before joining the staff in January 2013, my volunteer activities included serving on the Vestry, Church Treasurer, Finance Committee, Altar Guild, Volunteer Receptionist, Choir Member, Debt Reduction Committee, Vacation Bible School, and church offering poster.  During those activities, and even more since I’ve joined the staff, I have seen how the members of St. John’s transform their love for God and for the people of our church into action.

Before joining the staff of St. John’s, I kept busy being a wife to my wonderful husband, Cliff, and amazing daughter, Jessie. In addition to volunteering at church, I served as the Administrator for Teen Cotillion of Charlotte and Treasurer for Charlotte City Ballet Company and the Sharon Elementary School PTA. My previous work experience included public accounting at Price Waterhouse and internal audit for Bell Atlantic. 

I am so happy to be part of the St. John’s family.

Alan Reed
Organist and Master of the Choirs

I joined the staff of St. John’s as principal musician in February of 2003 after serving churches in Pensacola, Southern Pines, Memphis, and Somers Point. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Presbyterian College (SC), the Master of Music degree in church music from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, and the Master of Science and Education Specialist degrees in community agency counseling from UNC-Greensboro.  I play the organ for most of our services and direct the Treble Youth Choir, the Shepherd Choir, and St. John’s Choir, besides coordinating the musical offerings of all our ensembles.  I really enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities to help them grow as musicians in the proclamation of their faith.  I am married to Tracy, a counselor at Weddington High School in Union County.  She assists me with the choirs for children.  We have two children, Megan and Drayton.  Outside of church, I love to read, to cook, and to bake.  Each summer Tracy and I manage a very successful residential choir training week for the Royal School of Church Music in America. 

Tracy Reed

I moved to Charlotte with my husband Alan in 2003.  Currently I serve as a counselor at Weddington High School in Union County.  I hold master's degrees in public health and psychological counseling.  I direct the Cherub Choir and assist Alan with the Treble Youth Choir at St. John's, as well as the Royal School of Church Music course. 

Leslie Davis
Assistant to the Rector for Facilities

I began working at St. John's serving coffee and cake on Sunday morning, I did this for a year and half. In September of 1997 I became the housekeeper.My title was changed to Sexton in 2005, in 2010 to Property Steward, and in 2016 to Assistant to the Rector for Facilities.  I do my best to make a safe and welcoming place for all who come to St. John's.
